At Paul and Sheila Wellstone Elementary, our multilingual staff serve students at the center. Students have science, technology and engineering courses, two gymnasiums for physical education and recess, an art room, and a large library with materials in both English and Spanish.
Our Spanish dual language immersion program prepares both heritage Spanish speakers and native English speaking students to be proficient in both languages. Our goal is for students to read, write, listen and speak in both English and
Spanish by the end of fifth grade.
New in 2024, students are learning Karen language and culture in kindergarten. The Karen program will expand to additional grades in future years.
We offer:
-
PreK (full day) with dual immersion in Spanish and traditional English programs, plus a science course included in both programs
-
Discovery Club (fee-based, off-site)
-
Extended Day for Learning (EDL)
-
Rice Recreation Center is attached to our building.
