School Tour Video
  • Our historic building, named for the late Senator Paul Wellstone and his wife Sheila, offers students and families a beautiful, sunlit atrium iwth a full science lab, science and engineering courses, two gymnasiums for both PE and dance classes, and a large library with materials in both English and Spanish.
  • Our vision for Wellstone Elementary is an inclusive environment where diversity is valued and all students are free to be themselves.
  • We focus on the Minnesota PreK-5 academic standards while collaboratively planning and delivering culturally relevant instruction.
  • Our Spanish dual language immersion program prepares both native English and native Spanish speakers to be proficient in both languages. Our goal is for students to read, listen and speak in both English and Spanish by the end of 5th grade. In dual language immersion programs, students who speak English or the partner language learn together. Academic subjects are taught in both languages.
  • We have performing arts and opportunities for students to perform for their classroom community as well as in assemblies each year.

We offer:

  • PreK (full day) with dual immersion in Spanish and traditional English programs, plus a science course included in both programs
  • Discovery Club (fee-based, off-site)
  • Extended Day for Learning (EDL)
  • Rice Recreation Center is attached to our building.

Programs offered:
  • BioSMART (Areas A, B, C, D, E, F)
  • Spanish/English Dual Immersion (Areas A, C, E)
