At any time, you are welcome to come to the Student Placement Center located at 2102 University Ave. W. (651-632-3700) to speak with a staff member who will explain the process, answer your questions and help you fill out the application forms.

Saint Paul Public Schools is making some important changes as a result of the Strong Schools, Strong Communities strategic plan. These changes require us to think differently about some of our long-held beliefs. They reflect the best and most successful practices in urban education. We’re taking these important steps to strengthen all our schools, so that parents can feel confident that no matter what school their child attends – be it across the street or across the city – their child will get the high-quality education they deserve.

Saint Paul Public Schools’ Strong Schools, Strong Communities Strategic Plan directs SPPS transportation to be streamlined over the next two years to: 1) encourage learning closer to home; and 2) reduce transportation costs.

To facilitate this, we have divided the city into six attendance areas, A-F, and are phasing in changes in transportation across these areas over the next two school years, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014.

In the 2012/2013 school year, high school transportation modifications will take effect, meaning that in order to receive transportation, high school students must either enroll in their assigned Community High School or enroll in a program that receives busing across a region or district. You’ll learn more details by reading the School Selection Guide carefully.

In the 2013/2014 school year, elementary and middle/junior high transportation modifications will take effect. Those modifications include most elementary schools becoming K-5, creating more middle schools made up of Grades 6-8, and limiting transportation to assigned Community Schools – unless the student is enrolled in a program that receives busing across a region or district. Again, the School Selection Guide lays this out in more detail.

FOR FAMILIES WITH STUDENTS ENTERING KINDERGARTEN IN 2012/2013
Please pay attention to the fact that transportation to elementary schools will be changing in 2013/2014 and that transportation may no longer be available to your school of choice when your child moves up to Grade 1. In order to avoid another school change for your student, please see the planned 2013/2014 changes at the back of the School Selection Guide, and choose wisely for Kindergarten. Call the Student Placement Center at 651-632-3760 for detailed information and guidance.

FOR FAMILIES WITH STUDENTS ENTERING GRADE 7 IN 2012/2013 Students entering Grade 7 in 2012 will be allowed to complete both Grade 7 and Grade 8 at their middle/junior high school of choice.

FOR SPPS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
High school students entering Grade 9 must enroll in a school within their home Attendance Area, A-F, or a Regional Magnet or District Magnet, in order to receive bus transportation to and from school.
