Required Yearly Testing

The State of Minnesota requires nationally norm-referenced standardized achievement examinations for home schooled students yearly.  Minnesota Statewide Testing Program (MSTP) through the University of Minnesota is one source that provides testing materials for home school educators in Minnesota.

Additional information on Minnesota Statewide Testing Program (MSTP): All home school educators must pre-pay for their testing service. MSTP will accept check or money order; the costs are clearly indicated on the order form. Results from the testing are returned directly to the test administrator. A copy of the results is provided with the returned materials so the home school educator can forward score information to the district, if so required. MSTP does not provide home school testing scores to the district or the state.

Important Information to Know:

  • Completed order forms for Fall testing must be postmarked by October 15, 2023.
  • Completed order forms for Spring testing must be postmarked by April 1, 2024.
  • A late fee of $15 will be charged if order forms are not postmarked by specified date.
  • Completed order forms must include a signature from the district testing coordinator as a means of ensuring compliance with the state law requiring agreement between the district and the home school educator. Payment also must be included unless the district provides a purchase order for payment.
